Batavia Cemetery
History / Museums
Established in 1823, this is the final resting place for many of Batavia's earliest settlers and notable historical residents. Interesting architectural elements include the Richmond Mausoleum, the William Morgan Pillar and the Joesph Ellicott Obelisk. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Historic LeRoy House
History / Museums
Tour this mansion turned museum for over 100 years of unique history! The LeRoy Mansion was built in 1822 by Jacob LeRoy and later owned by the Chancellor of Ingham University which was the first female university in the United States to grant a 4 year degree.

Holland Land Office Museum

"The Birthplace of Western New York!" Now a museum, the building is the location of the Holland Land Purchase, where 3 million acres of Western New York were surveyed and sold. Ever changing exhibits celebrating the history and culture of Genesee County and Western New York are displayed throughout the museum.

JELL-O Gallery Museum

Come see where it all began! JELL-O was invented here in Genesee County in 1897 and this museum is dedicated to all things JELL-O including the history and marketing of "America's Most Famous Dessert." Marvel over the ads, TV commercials, molds, paintings and displays filled with fun facts! Don't forget to stop by the museum shop for unique JELL-O themed goods!

Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises

One of the best places to learn about the historic Erie Canal! Experience a unique 2-hour cruise which includes "locking through" and being raised the 49 ft. elevation of the Niagara Escarpment (the same one that creates Niagara Falls) in the only double set of locks on the Erie Canal. You will pass under bridges that raise straight up, see water cascade over Lockport's famous "Flight of Five" 1840's locks, and travel through the solid walls of the "rock cut" as your Coast Guard licensed captain describes the architecture, sights, and folklore along the way.

Medina Railroad Museum

The largest freight depot museum in the country! Featuring the largest collection of train artifacts and memorabilia known to exist under one roof. Also, see the longest HO scale layout and diorama, an immense 14ft by 204ft. You can also browse the gift shop or enjoy a 2 hour train ride along the Erie Canal. Museum open year round Tuesday through Sunday, 11am - 5pm. Visit their website for train excursion schedule and fare.

Rolling Hills Asylum

Built in 1827, Rolling Hills was once the Genesee County Home/Poorhouse and has a history of "hauntings." If you're curious about things that go "bump in the night," this is the perfect place to explore! Visit their website for ghost tour and event schedules.

Stafford Museum of History

Enjoy the ambience of a 19th century tour featuring farm implements, household furnishings, one-room school house records and quilts. Don't miss the collection of Redware pottery created during the late 1800's at the Morganville Pottery. Open 2-4pm on Sundays, Tuesdays & Thursdays from April until October.
