Fabulous Fall Food

Last night my husband and I stopped at McPherson's.  It wouldn’t be fall if we didn’t visit the “Frosts” and pick up apples or pumpkins. Of course, I was wishing it was the weekend so we could purchase one of their yummy pies or fry cakes.  Mmmm. There’s nothing quite like the smell of a golden-brown, apple pie fresh out of the oven.   Very few people leave without baked goods, cider or one of the many varieties of apples.

I also love the location.  It’s tucked away on a winding trail (Oatka Trail to be exact), and looks like a place Norman Rockwell would enjoy painting. It reminds me of a simpler time, where you visit with neighbors and the happy Golden Retriever rushes out to greet you. (Her name is  “Molly” by the way.)

We have a lot to be “Thankful” for in this month.  I’m grateful that D & R Depot Restaurant is going to cook my turkey this Thanksgiving. (Our oven isn’t working.) They do a fabulous job. You can order a turkey or full dinner with all the fixings to take out, or come and enjoy your meal at the restaurant so you don’t have to do the dishes. They even let you order “Leftovers to Go” at a very reasonable price, so you won’t miss out on the “midnight” turkey sandwich.

And while I’m thinking about food, I wonder how many of you know about all the bakeries in Genesee County?  Just to name a few: Scratch Bakery in LeRoy, Heavenly Sweets in Pavilion and Buttercrumb Bakery in Corfu.  Okay, I have to face it; I’ve never visited a bakery I didn’t like. I think it must be the smell, or maybe it’s all the gooey chocolate creations?

This Thanksgiving, take a moment and be grateful that we have scrumptious food on our tables, as well as family & friends to share it with!

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the Genesee County Chamber!
